Abstract

This study aims to analyze development inequality and the classification of economic sectors in North Maluku Province for the 2019–2025 period. It employs a quantitative descriptive method using a panel data approach. Analyses were conducted using the Location Quotient (LQ) and Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) to identify leading sectors, the Klassen Typology to classify regions, and the Williamson Index to measure inter-regional inequality. The study utilizes secondary data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) regarding Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), population size, and per capita income across 10 regencies/cities in North Maluku Province during the 2019–2025 period. The results indicate that the leading sectors include Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries; Mining and Quarrying; Manufacturing; and Public Administration, Defense, and Compulsory Social Security. Based on the Klassen Typology, there were no regions classified as "rapidly advancing and growing" or "developing." The Williamson Index rose from 0.28 in 2019 to 1.29 in 2025, indicating increasing inter-regional inequality. These findings serve as a basis for formulating more equitable development policies through the optimization of leading sectors and the enhancement of inter-regional connectivity.
