Abstract

This research raises important issues related to the impact of traditional oil mining on the environment in the Wonocolo area by emphasizing the relationship between economic and environmental aspects. This study aims to analyze environmental conditions and identify the impact of traditional oil mining activities on water, soil, air, landfill management and landscape change. The research methods used include a descriptive qualitative approach with NVivo 12 tools to explore public and stakeholder perceptions, as well as a descriptive quantitative approach using SEM-PLS analysis with the help of SmartPLS to test the relationship between variables statistically. The results of the study show that traditional oil mining activities in Wonocolo have a significant impact on the deterioration of environmental quality. Water pollution occurs due to oil spills and unmanaged exploitation waste, soil degrades due to toxic substances that damage soil structure, and air is polluted by gas emissions from the drilling and oil burning process. In addition, weak waste management and uncontrolled landscape changes add to the complexity of environmental problems. These findings confirm the importance of an environmental economic approach in formulating sustainable mining management policies. The implication of this research is the need to increase regulations, education for the community, and the application of environmentally friendly technology so that the economic benefits of mining do not sacrifice environmental sustainability.
